Positive Impact of Extended Reality in the Entertainment & Gaming Industry
Due to the rising demand for more immersive gaming experiences, the Gaming and Entertainment section is expected to take the lead in extended reality (XR) applications. Game-makers have struggled to give fans more immersive, memorable, and engaging experiences for years.
Games have advanced from faster consoles to smarter chipsets and striking visuals. Brands that can give their audiences rich, game-like experiences are in a great situation to take advantage of the new era of the metaverse and get closer to their customers.
Use-Cases of Extended Reality in the Entertainment and Gaming Industry
Sony announced in 2023 that it will spend more on R&D for its game business. It wants to improve technology for live service games and the new field of “extended reality,” which combines the real and digital worlds. The business will invest around $2.13 billion into R&D for its gaming division for the fiscal year ending March 2024. The amount, which will make up about 40% of its overall R&D spending, is more than Sony is currently spending on R&D in electronics and semiconductors. The sum is also more than the $1.96 billion spent on game R&D during the fiscal year ending 2023.
In 2023, Mirrorscape, a company that makes extended reality (XR) games, teamed up with Paizo, the most popular publisher of board role-playing games. The collaboration will bring Paizo’s well-known games, such as Pathfinder and Starfinder, to Mirrorscape’s augmented reality tabletop gaming platform.
In 2022, Holoride, one of the top companies to offer extended reality entertainment in vehicles, stated that its game-changing platform would be launched in Germany. The add-on package was announced to be available for some Audi cars by mid-November 2022. It mixes a high-end VR space with a moving car for a never-before experience. Passengers will be whisked away into various games and apps, all of which employ live ride data to bring content to life in an entirely new media paradigm called “Elastic Content.”
